This homemade apple cider is a non-alcoholic beverage suitable for the whole family. You can prepare this delicious drink for the Thanksgiving day and enjoy a long chatting night with your loved ones. You can make this wonderful apple cider a day ahead. Here is the recipe:
Ingredients:
- 9-10 gala apples (you can use other apples – the taste may be more tart and intense so increase the amount of sugar in that case)
- 1/2 to 1 cup sugar
- 5 teaspoons cinnamon (or 5 cinnamon sticks)
- 5 teaspoons allspice
Instructions:
- Quarter the apples (without removing the peel and seeds).
- Next, in a large stock pot, apply the apples and fill them with water (enough to cover them).
- Apply the sugar. Then, wrap the allspice and cinnamon in a doubled up cheese cloth and tie. Fold in the water and apples.
- Boil uncovered, on high heat, for 1-hour checking on it often.
- Turn down heat, cover it, and allow to simmer for 2 hours. After 2 hours of simmering, take off the heat and allow to cool.
- Take out the spices, then using a potato masher, mash up the apples to a pulp like consistency.
- When cool strain over a large vessel. When the liquid has drained away, apply the remaining pulp into a doubled up cheesecloth then squeeze over the vessel until no more liquid comes out.
- You can store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 1 week or you could freeze it for later use (if desired).
- Reheat on the stove or in the microwave and enjoy either plain or with whipped topping and cinnamon or caramel syrup or caramels.
- Moreover, you can make this a diabetic recipe by adding diabetic sweeteners (instead of sugar) to taste or none at all.
Enjoy!
